Reviews for Canadian Content from the Vancouver Fringe Festival 2005:

Thanks to groups like Second City and The Kids in the Hall, it's common knowledge that Canadian kids have a talent for sketch comedy. The actors behind Vancouver's Urban Improv Group are no exception. Their Fringe offering, Canadian Content would do veteran Canucks like Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin proud.

Urban Improv boasts some of Vancouver's best improvisational theatre artists; the company has crafted a mix of scripted and ad-libbed material that puts most of the other sketch comedy at the Fringe to shame. Skits are wildly inventive (you'll be amazed at the obvious connection between gun battles, taxes, and pet euthanasia) and skillfully linked.

First off was a performer from Canadian Content, a "multi-media sketch and improv show," produced by Urban Improv. It was funny. Seriously, I know people are afraid of bad Kids in the Hall and SNL troupes, but these guys swear a lot and know how to work an audience. I'd go to this one.

Urban Improv, one of Vancouver's best instant-comedy troupes parade all their very best. When they are good they are magnificent. When they are not they are still fun. Chances are, if you are a regular at Urban Well on Mondays, you will have seen fragments or pre-evolved versions of these sketches, but this is a greatest hits album. Songs you love you don't mind putting on again, even when you know the words and tune by heart. Take Canadian Content out of their sleeve, slap them on and give them a spin.
